JETS players Ante Covic and Jade North, pictured, who will attend the civic celebrations today, were given the all-clear to party by their wives on Newcastle radio yesterday morning.
After a rather big night on the . . . errr . . . water, Jets captain North and goalkeeper Covic thought they'd ring KO-FM brekkie announcers David Collins and Tanya Wilks to say g'day.Collins said when the lads first called the station about 6.30am and said they had played in the Jets grand final, no one believed them. However, it was quickly ascertained the lads were the real deal and the brekkie crew arranged for them to catch a taxi into the radio station for an on-air chat. What Covic and North didn't realise was that Collins and Wilks had also telephoned the players' wives to have their own little chat with them on air.But to the surprise of both announcers, Covic's wife Linda and North's spouse Maree were happy for their hubbies to party for a few more days."I saw him about an hour ago. He's been in the backyard partying," Linda said of Covic. "I'll give him a week [to celebrate]. He's got a couple of more days," Maree said of North. An avid Jets fan, Collins couldn't believe his luck at getting the Jets players into the studio."It was totally unexpected," Collins told The Word. The Jets' civic celebrations will take place on the steps of Newcastle City Hall today at 3.30pm.
