Frequently Asked Questions
Is the "Marriage Cerificate" we are given on the day the one I use to change my name etc? No, the certificate you are given on the day is not "Proof" of being married and cannot be used for change of name etc. What you need to do a week or two after your wedding...couples usually leave it until after their honeymoon, is fill out a form to request a "Registered Copy" of your marriage Certificate. THAT is the one you need to use for legal reasons, like change of name etc. The Marriage Celebrant can only help you with the documents before and on the day of your wedding, once we have lodged them at B D and Marriages it is out of our hands. When do we have to get the legal documents filled out and sent to Birth Deaths and Marriages and how much do they cost to lodge? As long as you have the Notice of Intended Marriage form completed and signed by a Celebrant (and lodged with the celebrant) at least a month and a day before the date you wish to marry, that is all you have to do. There is no charge at this time. However the Celebrant will probably ask for a deposit, which is usual, to confirm the date of your marriage in their diary. Celebrants usually have the forms needed of you can download them from the internet. I have them and all the other documents we need on the day. After the ceremony I make sure the necessary documents are copied for my records and then sent to B D and Marriages to be registered. I am not very confident in front of people. Do I have to memorise my Vow's. NO! Most couple's, even the confident one's usually opt to "repeat after me". So please, if you suffer from nerves, stutter and lack of confidence, DONT STRESS. We can create a ceremony that you will love and feel really comfortable with. We want a short and simple ceremony. How long should it go for? So many couples today are after a no fuss...keep it simple ceremony. I always recommend the ceremony is no shorter that 15 mins. I have beautiful vow's and readings to choose from and special ways to involve family, without it being over the top and dragging on for too long. So yes you can have a short and simple ceremony without it lacking depth, sincerity, romance and fun. Half an hour or just under is what most couple opt for today.
